Nothing’s cryptic teaser decoded – CMF Phone 1 incoming, specs in tow

Nothing published a cryptic teaser yesterday, which lead to speculation that the company was ready to launch the Nothing Phone (3), given that the two predecessors were announced in July. However, two subsequent tweets reveal it’s actually one of Nothing’s budget phones under the CMF sub-brand.

The device pictured in the teaser is the Nothing CMF Phone 1 with a distinctive screw that’s part of “Nothing Lock”. Keep in mind that this name isn’t officially confirmed, but rather suggested by a tipster.

The feature itself allows users to purchase proprietary accessories such as support brackets and lanyards. These accessories will attach to a special connector at the back of the phone.

In addition, a detailed specs sheet has emerged pointing to a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED panel with rather thick bezels, Dimensity 7200 SoC, 6GB of RAM and either 128 or 256GB expandable storage. The back of the phone holds a 50MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide one and a 16MP front-facing camera is used for selfies.

The phone will be reportedly powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, supporting 33W charging.

The chassis is made of plastic and vegan leather, although there will also be fully plastic variants. Notably, the back cover is user-replaceable, and there won’t be NFC connectivity.

The purported pricing of the CMF Phone is between $249 and $279 for the base storage option. The official announcement will be sometime in July.
