DANCE THEATRE OF HARLEM: Sounds of Hazel: The Hazel Scott Ballet comes to the Paramount Theatre on November 5, 2022.
Now a singular presence in the ballet world, the Dance Theatre of Harlem Company tours nationally and internationally, presenting a powerful vision for ballet in the 21st century. The 18-member, multi-ethnic company will perform a new piece honoring historical figure Hazel Scott, the Trinidad-born American jazz and classical pianist and singer.
Seattle Theatre Group is thrilled to have joined other arts presenters from across the United States as co-commissioners of “Sounds of Hazel,” celebrating the life and legacy of the jazz legend.
“This is what Dance Theatre of Harlem is about: Bringing to the stage stories that haven’t been told, told by people who haven’t been able to tell them before,” says Virginia Johnson, the Artistic Director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem.
